Phonics and Spelling

We start teaching phonics in our Early Years using the Sounds Write Programme; we continue to use it consistently across the school all the way up to year 6.  We also use Sounds Write to teach our spelling, and we teach the children the core concepts of spelling from Early Years to Year 6.

Early reading is taught daily in Early Years and KS1.  Children are encouraged to foster a love for books and they progress through a reading scheme that is matched to the sounds that we teach in our daily phonics lessons.  When the children can successfully read and comprehend a text, usually during year 1, they progress onto the Accelerated Reader scheme.

See our Parent Workshops page for phonics presentations to parents.
