Routine and Daily timetable

Doors open at 8.45 am for our two Reception classes ready for lessons to begin at 8.50am. We encourage children to enter independently through the main door as this encourages responsibility for their belongings.

After register we have our first teaching input, this is phonics.  We teach phonics with fidelity to our scheme Sounds Write. After the teaching input we then do a carousel of activities that link to the 7 areas of learning.  We like to ensure that all children get access to the 7 areas of learning, and we do this by scaffolding learning in a carousel of activities.  At approximately 10.15 we then go to “choosing time”.  Every child has the opportunity to choose in the room and engage in well planned provision that relates to the learning we are aiming to achieve this term. Following this, our children enjoy a short break from 10.30am before lessons resume at 10.45am.

Before lunch, we recap what we have done in the morning; sing some nursery rhymes, and read stories or poems.

Lunch is at 11.20 am. We encourage children to access the free school dinners. It is important for the children to try to cut their own food and eat independently. If children have a packed lunch please make sure it has lots of healthy options.

At 12.15 pm we begin our afternoon with either a literacy or maths input. Following this the children can choose from a range of child-led activities and learn through play throughout the afternoon.  The adults will spend time with children working on SEN targets, individual reading, or scaffolding learning through play.

“Every teacher (senior teaching staff included) is visible and makes time to engage with the pupils.”
PARENT OF CHILD IN EARLY YEARS (9TH OCT 2020)

Before home time we split into small groups to practice our handwriting and to read a story.  Reading stories happens throughout the day; we value reading as a non-negotiable at Harriers Banbury Academy.

We dismiss each class at 3.20pm. Please wait outside your child’s classroom for their names to be called. If they have forgotten something, please just wait a couple of minutes for the rest of the children to leave before coming back in to collect things. This helps us to keep all the children safe.
