What we are learning in Nursery

Week beginning 10th February

We have been very creative this week making our Valentine’s Day cards and clay love hearts. We hope you liked them!

Clay love hearts

We have been focusing on our counting and number recognition skills. We are getting really good. We have continued making number towers this week.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been reading “The Smeds and the Smoos” by Julia Donaldson.  Mrs Bell and Miss Ahmed have been really amazed at how well we have remembered the story. To finish our story, and as it is the end of the term, we decided to have a “The Smeds and the Smoos” tea party; we even had pink milk and brown bread. We had a wonderful time and will always remember this story.

Finally we have a few thank yous to say. One of the students in school kindly donated a huge car garage to Nursery, the children have really enjoyed playing with it and would like to say thank you for your kindness.

We also want to say a very big thank you to our student helpers Hannah and Brad; it’s been lovely to have you, we will miss you very much.

Mrs Bell and Miss Ahmed wish you all a restful half term and will see you next term on Tuesday 25th February 2020.

Week beginning 3rd February

This has been a very creative week in Nursery. We have made lots of lovely creations for our loved ones; we can’t wait to surprise you next week!

We have been learning about numbers. Mrs Bell numbered some mega blocks. We had so much fun making towers, ordering and recognising our numbers.

The children had a lovely time playing Kim’s game on the library bus and all waited patiently for their turn. 5 items were placed on the floor and covered with a scarf. 1 item was removed from the group and the children then had to identify which one was missing.

We have introduced a new “tidy up” plan and have all been given an area to tidy. This has really helped to keep our classroom looking beautiful! On Friday we were awarded the certificate for the tidiest classroom as well as a trophy! We were so pleased to receive this award and are excited to continue over the coming weeks.

Week beginning  27th January

Our story of the week is Whatever Next! We have learned the story so well. Mrs Bell has storymapped it and made a story box to help us role play.  Some of us have even taken off in our rocket, which we made a few weeks ago.

We have been learning about mixing colours this week. We chose two colours, a different colour for each hand, then placed them down on the paper to make handprints. We finished our creation by rubbing the two colours together to make a third colour.

We have been working hard on our pencil control this week. We have carefully traced over highlighted lines to help develop our fine motor skills and pencil grip.

We have practiced counting our numbers too.  We counted from 0-10.  Some of us decided we wanted to count backwards too! We were very clever.

Week beginning  20th January

It’s been a very busy week, on Tuesday we went on to the big playground and bought a cake from our year 6 cake sale.  We sat on the picnic benches and all enjoyed our yummy cakes.

We also went on the Library bus. When Miss Ahmed asked one of the children to choose a story, they said they wanted to know all about the bus; a lot of interesting questions were asked.

The next day, Ms Pamplin came to nursery to tell us more about the bus and how it arrived on our playground, we all listened with great interest.

On Thursday, we went to Forest School, we got dressed in our all-in-ones. Mrs Bell taught us some very important rules and also a new game. We can’t wait to explore our forest and learn more over the next few weeks.

On Friday, we celebrated Chinese New Year with EYU classes.

A very kind parent came to talk to us about the celebration; it was very interesting we even got to try on the dragon mask.

On our return to Nursery, we took part in lots of activities relating to Chinese New Year. Some of us even had a go at using chopsticks and writing some numbers.

We had a special snack at Nursery to celebrate Chinese New Year, it was Prawn crackers!

As a treat, Mrs Bell bought the children gold chocolate coins. These are placed in red envelopes and given to the younger members of Chinese families by the elders. This tradition hopes to pass on good luck and blessings for the coming year.

Kung hei fat Choy (Happy new year).

Week beginning 13th January

What a busy week it’s been!

On Tuesday some of us had our very first visit to the library bus. We took the ‘Three Little Pigs’ story sack and some puzzles. It was so much fun! We can’t wait to go back.

We went to our first Singing assembly on Wednesday. Miss Gayer was really impressed with how brilliantly we walked in and how well we behaved throughout the assembly. We all had our pegs moved up when we came back to Nursery. We really enjoyed Singing assembly and sang for the rest of the day!

On Thursday we had our junk modelling day; we used our creative skills to make some brilliant rockets then we showed our grownups at the end of the day. We also took a stroll through Forest School. We all listened so well and are looking forward to going over the next few weeks.

Reminder to parents/carers: please make sure your child comes to Nursery with a hat, coat and wellies, all named please, as we will be spending time outside in Nursery garden and in Forest school.

Week beginning 6th January

Welcome back. We hope you have had a relaxing break.

We would like to offer a special welcome to our January starters who have all settled well. We look forward to seeing you develop through your time at Little Harriers Nursery.

Our topic this term is Space. The children have already shown great interest and even decided they wanted to make a giant ‘Rainbow Rocket’! We got very messy painting, but it was brilliant fun.

We have learned some interesting facts about space; one of the children told us that we live on Earth, another mentioned that the sun is very high and very hot.

We have been practicing our counting. Some us even counted back from 10 before blasting off into space.

It is brilliant to see how well all of our children have returned to Nursery after the break.
